" Friends of the Poor Walk"
The St. Vincent De Paul Society is hosting the annual “Friends of the Poor Walk” to raise awareness and funds to support direct services to individuals who have emergency needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, utility assistance, medical assistance, transportation and other individual needs. This 5K Walk is on September 15 at 8:00am at Veteran's Memorial Park in McHenry. The Church of the Holy Apostles, St. Mary’s, St. Patrick’s and St John’s have combined their efforts to help the poor in the local community through this “Walk for the Poor“. All of this is done by volunteers, who hope to strengthen their community by reaching out to those in need. Since 2008 the “Friends of the Poor Walk” has been held across the nation attracting 18,000 walkers and raising $1.4 million to help the poor. The McHenry Conference was ranked 3rd in the nation last year for the donations that we received from our community, This is what supports the needy here in our area. The McHenry Conference is having their walk on Sept 15th at 8:00am at Veterans Memorial Park McHenry, Illinois. Join the community and be a walker or a supporter on September 15. It will be a day of fun with Live entertainment, Two Christian Bands "Testify and "Y-Knot", speakers, snacks, entertainment, music and lots of raffles.
