Affordable fun at the McHenry Outdoor Theater

Posted on September 3, 2010 - 13:05:05

Last weekend I got a chance to enjoy one of the Fall Throwback weekends at the McHenry Outdoor Theater.

My siblings and I popped popcorn and geared up for the Steven King Weekend featuring "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Shining."

The best part is it was only $4 per adult!

If this sounds like fun for you, don't worry because there are more weekends to enjoy two movies for only $4.

This weekend is Sing-A-Long Weekend featuring "Grease" and "Hairspray." Normally the Outdoor Theater has shows on only Fridays and Saturdays, but this weekend is an extra bonus with the holiday and you can see the double feature on Sunday, too.

Other theme weekends are as follows:

Spielberg Weekend - Sept. 10 and 11: "E.T." and "Jurassic Park"

80s Weekend - Sept. 17 and 18: "The Goonies" and "Back to the Future"

Cult Classics Weekend - Sept. 24 and 25: "The Big Lebowski" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"

People giving back

Last weekend I had the pleasure to be at the Save the Sistas fundraiser for the Centegra Gavers Breast Center.

What a great turnout! Swarms of people came to help make the event such a great success.

And everyone with Centegra, CC Salon, and Raymond's Bowl did a great job at making the event such a success.

If you didn't get to come out and you to show your support, don't worry, because you can!

The Pink Fire Trucks will be at both Centegra Hospitals on Aug. 31 where you can make a donation for the Centegra Gavers Breast Center.

The trucks will be at the McHenry hospital from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and they will be at the Woodstock hospital from 3 to 5 p.m.

Come on out!

E.T. with Crystal Lake Park District

Posted on August 13, 2010 - 15:28:29

Preparing for the school year just got a little bit easier.

The Crystal Lake Park District is offering Extended Time. E.T. is a before and after school program providing, safe, reliable care for children. E.T. gives parents the comfort of knowing where their children are when they cannot be at home. All District 47 students in kindergarten through fifth grade are eligible to attend.  E.T. is held at Glacier Ridge, Canterbury, Coventry, Husmann, Indian Prairie, North, South, West and Woodscreek Elementary Schools, as well as the facility at Spoerl Park (kindergarten only).

E.T. staff provides supervised recreational activities allowing time for group games, arts and crafts, movies, field trips, fun with friends and even homework. This program also allows your children to participate in after school art classes or sport practices you might not have been able to transport them to.

For parents with a changing schedule, a 10-day ET Punch Pass is available. The passes can be used for regular school days, half days or Institute Days. Once registered, you need to contact the office at least a day before your child will attend. The passes are non-refundable and nontransferable. Passes expire at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. Passes are sold on a first come, first served basis. There is a limit of 10 available at each school. Parents will be notified upon completion of their Punch Pass.
