Three Oaks Recreation Area

By Zach Walters

Need a gorgeous, fun filled park to head to with the kids this Fall? The Three Oaks Recreation Area is exactly what you're looking for. Built on a reclaimed quarry, the park features breathtaking views and fun for the entire family.

The area sports a phenomenal marina that rents kayaks, canoes, rowboats, paddle boats, and even sailboats to coast along either the North or South Lake within the park. Along with the lakes, Three Oaks features various hiking trails with overlooks that offer fantastic views of the lake. Catch and release fishing is also allowed on the lake, with a recent study finding Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, and various other species. The marina and trails are open through the end of October, from 6:30 am to Sunset. All trails are closed from sunset to 6:30 am.

Three Oaks Recreation Area is located at the corner of Rte. 14 and S. Main Street, with entrances on both roads. Residents receive free parking and access to the area, and non-residents must pay $5.00 per vehicle to park. For more information, please call 815-459-2020 or visit www.crystallake.org.
